Easter Sunday

Resurrection Day, Easter Sunday, 2023, was unlike many before, as the day began with a trip to church. The years of pandemic, the years prior to it, did not find us in church, as we found the sun rise service, more a drain than uplifting .

Having given up church going, namely when inconvenient, reaching the church at 6.30 in the morning, was quite a feat . I caught the tail end of the service, which I was told started at 3.00 am and with the help of those beside me, managed to make it for absolution, to partake of the holy communion.

First ,all consumed by the gravity, I walked up with my bowed head for the consecrated communion. But when I felt the little spoon, which had been in many oral orifice, rattling in my mouth, I was overcome by apprehension, but for a brief moment. Then came over me, the satisfaction of knowing that it was a commemoration of a sacred act , the partaking of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

On returning home, breakfast preparation demanded sole attention. To my considerable gratification, the appams were soft and fluffy. To say something of the chicken stew, it was nothing short of delicious and we had a scrumptious repast . The much anticipated breaking of the piñata egg, came next . Filled with delicious homemade chocolates, it was truly a treat .

Thus began our Easter Sunday, a day of peace, and good cheer . Interspersed with mouthwatering delicacies, outsourced from various agencies, the day was spent in quietude, and companionship , with family.
